Elizabeth Miller

Elizabeth Miller will lead the expansion of the Ximera open textbook platform to the Calculus 1, 2, and 3 courses offered on all of Ohio State’s campuses, including Calculus for Business and Engineering. The project includes the creation of graded homework and practice problems to replace the current online homework system.

ALX has funded two previous phases of Ximera adoption in the Calculus courses, and the annual savings range is meant to accurately represent the savings possibilities. Students who have taken Calculus 1 would have already purchased the textbook, and would need only to purchase the $40 access to online homework. The $500,000 number represents savings realized if 100% of students had already purchased the textbook in Calculus 1, and only needed the code for Calculus 2.

On the other hand, students can come to Calculus 2 through many avenues, and many still need to purchase the textbook for Calculus 2. The $844,000 annual savings number is achieved if 100% of students could avoid paying for the $160 textbook. The actual savings of this project fall somewhere within this range.
